Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 15:50 on 1 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Today's FA[edit]

  • There is a hidden category somehow being displayed at the bottom of the Main Page, "Articles containing German-language text", which is probably coming from the FA. Abductive (reasoning) 08:50, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I don't see that (using Firefox). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:46, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hidden categories are only visible to users who have chosen to see them in their Preferences. I can see it in Chrome and Firefox. The real question is, how is it bleeding through at all? Abductive (reasoning) 10:17, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only occurence of "German-language" when editing the article is in the first of 16 hidden categories. I don't know what causes is. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:24, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I suspect it may have something to do with Template:Lang being in Wikipedia:Today's featured article/June 1, 2024.--Launchballer 10:55, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried a bunch of test edits including removing that instance and it didn't clear it up. Abductive (reasoning) 11:02, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You tried in the article, but I can't see a change to the TFA template. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:26, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is because of {{lang|de|Blühendes Barock}} in the TFA template. Once that is removed, then the cat should disappear. --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 11:33, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, I forgot to add |nocat=yes to the template. That should remove the hidden category while keeping the language tagging. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 12:50, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Stephen 13:31, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current DYK[edit]

  • Travis Clayton lead - please change to '... that Travis Clayton went from the eighth tier of English rugby union to being drafted into the National Football League, even though he never played in an American football game?' Clayton is British and I am pretty certain he would have played in a football game - Association Football, aka soccer. As per the MoS, his article should be written to accord with his nationality (spelling, terminology etc): football for Clayton would be the UK version, not the US one. Today's OTD[edit]

  • I can't determine if the wreckage image is protected? JennyOz (talk) 23:21, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like it was not, because I just edited the file on Commons. Removed for now, I'll investigate in a bit when I get home it nobody else gets there first.  — Amakuru (talk) 13:02, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now protected at WP:CMP and reinstated. In the olden days there were vandals who specifically watched for unprotected MP images, looks like they all retired. Stephen 13:35, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. Actually, I see what happened now. In fact it was protected all along, only that the image has a parameter of |link=American Airlines Flight 1420 wreckage2.jpg which means you get a different image (not the cropped version) when you click through. Not sure I love that, it's quite confusing, but hey ho...  — Amakuru (talk) 14:24, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tomorrow's OTD[edit]

  • O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort (1724): not an exact anniversary, should be moved to June 11. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 12:52, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bach didn't compose it for 11 June, but for the first Sunday after Trinity which in 2024 is 2 June, related to that Sunday's liturgy. Not some Tuesday. We talk about the 300th anniversary of the beginning of his chorale cantata cycle. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:36, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
